Identification Certificate alternative proof for electorate

Gangtok, April 28 : In a relaxation, the state election department has allowed the certificate of identification (COI) as an additional document as a proof of identity for the voter in the forthcoming assembly and parliamentary polls in Sikkim to be held on April 30 next. In a directive issued to the District Electoral Officers,

the department has stipulated that the COI should be treated as an additional document for proof of identity of the eligible voters, an official release said here today.

The COI will be an additional document apart from other identity proofs for a voter like Pan Card, ration card, passport etc.

The Sikkim Subject Certificate or the Certificate of Identification have been issued exclusively to the indigenous people by the state government after the Himalayan state merged with India 34 years ago.
