Zero govt attendance in Darjeeling hills

Siliguri : Most of the Central and state government offices in Darjeeling hills reported zero attendance today due to the non-cooperation movement launched by the GJM, police sources said.

The Superintendent of police, Darjeeling, Rahul Sribastav told PTI over phone that employee were not reporting for duties in government offices, due to the GJM non-cooperation movement. But there was no report of any untoward incident in the hills and the law and order situation in the hills was under control, the SP claimed.

The major tourist attraction, the toy train stopped running since yesterday following GJM movement, railway authorities said there. The GJM launched the non-cooperation movement from January 7 demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland. GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said the non- cooperation movement would continue till further decision and people in the area are united under the GJM banner to fulfill their statehood demand.

Meanwhile, West Bengal minister for Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Asok Bhattacharya alleged that GJM was not keeping its words which the party leadership had promised in second tripartite talks in Delhi on December 29, not to go for any movement till third round of tripartite talks. The minister demanded that salaries to those hill employees be stopped who did not attend their duties.
