Mokokchung : In view of the 23rd general conference of the Naga Students Federation (NSF) scheduled for the later part of the month of April 2009, at Mopungchuket village under Mokokchung district, officials of the NSF led by their finance secretary and sports secretary along with officials of the AKM visited the host village (Mopungchuket) today.

The Mopungchuket Ait Laishir Telongjem (MALT), the students union of Mopungchuket village under the aegis of the Ao Students Conference (AKM) is hosting the 23rd NSF general conference.

Members of the NSF General Conference Planning Board of AKM led by its convener Dr. Kika Longkumer also accompanied the visiting student leaders to the village today. The visitors were welcomed by the village council members of Mopungchuket, MALT leaders and MALT Local Organizing Committee members. After a brief interactive session between the parties at the village guest house premises, the team took a tour around the village. They visited several sites including the Middle School playground; the proposed venue for the conference hall, Süngkotenem Park, Longrangtenem Park, Mangkolong Picnic Spot, Etiben Tower and the village museum. NSF leaders expressed satisfaction at the progress made in preparation for the conference. MALT however expressed regret that they are facing an uphill task due to time constraints, as they got the green signal from NSF and AKM to host the NSF general conference in the village only during the month of October 2008. MALT local organizing committee members sought the support and cooperation of NSF leaders for the successful organizing of the general conference in the village. Infrastructural development remains a major hurdle for MALT owing to lack of funds. Water scarcity is another dreaded problem and the road conditions may cause inconveniences during the conference if not taken care of beforehand, according to MALT.
Both NSF and AKM leaders have assured MALT of all possible help for the smooth organization of the NSF general conference in the village. Apart from the proposed 2000 delegates or so from the federating tribal units of the NSF and the invitees, thousands of visitors are expected to visit the village during the NSF general conference. It is reported that the forthcoming one is the first time that the NSF has held a general conference in an Ao Naga village.
