Northeast's first homoeopathy medicine making unit in Tripura

Agartala, March 21 (IANS) To tap the vast resource-pool of medicinal plants in northeast India, the region's first homoeopathy medicines manufacturing unit was inaugurated in Tripura Monday by Hahnemann Medical Research Private Ltd.

With state of the art technology and modern laboratories, the Rs.1.25-crore homoeopathy medicines manufacturing unit was commissioned at Bodhjungnagar, 25 km north of here.

'The manufacturing unit would play a key role in exploiting the huge resources of medicinal plants in the northeastern region and catering to the needs of homoeopathy medicines in the region and neighbouring Bangladesh,' state Industry and Commerce Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said after inaugurating the unit.

The Tripura government has allotted half-an-acre land to the private group for the manufacturing unit.

'Though a sizeable population in the northeastern region depends on homoeopathy treatment and medicines, there is no medicine manufacturing unit in the region,' company director Nihar Ranjan Ghosh told reporters.
