Elephant twins born at Orang National Park


‘Alka’ and her newborn twins KALAIGAON, Dec 15 – Alka, an elephant engaged at the Orang National Park to ferry thousands of tourists inside the wildlife sanctury for several years, has created a history of sorts when she gave birth to twins in the sanctuary last night. Acccording to SK Daila, DFO, Orang National Park, an elephant giving birth to twins is extremely rare. Alka already has a five-year-old calf.The DFO told The Assam Tribune that Alka had mated with a wild elephant last year in the Orang National Park.
Both the newborn calves are female and no veterinary assistance were needed in the process of the delivery.
For the forest officials and civilians in and around the Park, it’s truly a double delight.
