First Indian team scales Mt Nepal

Imphal, Oct 6 : Eleven climbers from the country's northeastern region earn the distinction of being the members of the first Indian team to scale the Mt Nepal in North Sikkim.

The pre-Everest expedition to Mt Nepal Peak of Sikkim, which was kicked-off on September 5, concluded on October 2.

Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association president Dr L Surjit, also the team leader, chose the peak since it was technical peak and other team has climbed the peak from India.

Other members of the team were Kazi Sherpa(Sikkim), Puyamcha Mohon (Manipur), Mohan Biswkrama Sherpa (Sikkim), Maibam Shanta Singh (Manipur), Athokpam Robert (Manipur), Ningthoujam Bidyapati Devi (Manipur), Nima Lama (Arunachal Pradesh), Tarun Saikia (Assam), David Zohmangaiha (Mizoram) and Ansu Jamsenpa (Arunachal Pradesh).

The peak is situated at an altitude of 7168 m (23,511 ft.) above mean sea level.
