The Government is laying stress on education, During President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil's recent visit to Mizoram and Tripura effort was made to encourage students.
While attending the eighth convocation of the Tripura University, the President focused on better education for the youth in the region. She stressed on the need for overall development, including better connectivity and industrial growth of the region.
The President stated that despite the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Tripura Urban Employment Initiative being implemented here, consistent efforts were still needed to ensure growth.
Local residents felt happy that the northeast region is also getting Government's attention.
"I don't feel that Northeast is cut off from the rest of the country because the presence of President shows that we are being given an equal importance. So I don't go by the myth," said Chutan Dey, a student waho was awarded during President Patil's visit.
Northeast is rich in natural resources, which can be exploited for the economic prosperity of the region.
Recently, while inaugurating the World Bamboo Day in Nagaland, Vice-President Hamid Ansari stated to realize the full potential of bamboo, various technical, financial and entrepreneurial interventions were needed in the field of forestry.
"The state of Nagaland is a pioneer state and has developed a policy for bamboo in 2004; the policy articulates bamboo development in 2 ways development as a resource and development as an enterprise," said Vice President Hamid Ansari during his visit.
The Centre will showcase North-East as an attractive investment destination during the 9th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held on January 7, 2011.
