NBFI raids in Tripura, CID accused of nepotism

Agartala, June 24 : The Congress has accused the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of nepotism while carrying out raids against non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) allegedly doing illegal business in Tripura.
Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath has said so far 27 people from various NBFIs were arrested. However, yesterday the CID team, along with small savings officials, raided Rosevalley’s Agartala office, one of the biggest NBFIs in Eastern India, but did not detain anybody despite finding serious malpractices. He alleged that the investigating team held a closed door meeting with the Rosevalley officials after conducting raids.
Superintendent of Police, CID, Kamal Chakraborty later informed the media that they did not find much irregularity, but said a second phase of investigation would be carried out soon.
Reports said like other NBFIs, Rosevalley too did not have the sanction of the RBI and SEBI but had been collecting cash from the market luring investors with a good return in a short period, whereas in paper they promised to pay back in kind.
‘’The fraudulent organizations promise people in general and illegally collect money, but in all the cases the charge-sheets framed by the police are found weak in the court and all the accused obtain bail,’’ Nath said.
The Congress leader accused the ruling Left Front of being involved in the spread of NBFIs in the state for their narrow financial interest and demanded seizure of NBFIs accounts and other assets for ensuring return of the investment to the citizens. He also said a criminal case should be filed against the NBFIs.
