New Bank Ombudsman appointed for NE

SHILLONG, Dec 12 – Beryl B Sangma has been appointed as the Banking Ombudsman for the seven Northeastern States. He is presently holding the office of General Manager (Banking) in Reserve Bank of India, Kolkata.

Sources said that he is expected to assume charge in the current month at Guwahati.

Sangma joined the Reserve Bank of India as a Direct Recruit Grade B Officer in 1985. He was on deputation with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and closely associated with the investigations of major economic crimes in the country. He even represented India at Interpol. His assignments also took him to a number of European and other foreign countries.

The Banking Ombudsman Scheme is a mechanism through which the customers of banks can get their grievances redressed easily and quickly.
