Goa-Assam share one point each in drawn Ranji tie

Panaji: Host Goa and Assam had to be content with one point each, when the four-day Ranji Plate''A'' group cricket match was called off before the start of the mandatory overs when captain of both teams agreed for a draw on the concluding day at MCC ground Margao in South Goa today.

After three days play was washed out due to rain, play started today one hour before lunch.

Goa, after winning the toss, put Assam into bat. Assam mustered 177 for 5 in 64 overs on the strength of Dhiraj Jhadav's 57 laced with four hits to the fence off 175 balls and captain Amol Mujumdar's 44 (5x4,105b) when play was called off. They were involved in a 100 runs partership for the third wicket with a score on the board 142 for 3 after losing their first two wickets for 42.

Pritam Devnath( not out 11) and Sarupan (not out 14) added 29 runs for the sixth wicket unseperated.

Kshemal Waignkar and Reagan Pinto claimed two wickets each conceding 33 and 15 runs respectively, while Saurab Bandekar bagged one wicket, giving away 47 runs.

With this drawn match, Goa increased their points tally to 4 while Assam opened their account with one point.

Socres in brief: Assam: 177 for 5 in 64 overs Dhiraj Jhadav 57, Amol Mujundar 44, Pervez Aziz 15, Abhijit Roy 12, Preetan Devnath not out 11 and Sarupam not out 14.
