Manipur bandh called from Oct 1 midnight

Imphal | Oct 1 : A Total state-wide bandh for 48 hours in Manipur has been imposed from the midnight of October 1 in protest against the “irresponsible and unstable” SPF-led government of Manipur for “denying the genuine demands” to resolve the “chronic cases” of 835 teachers of the 6 autonomous district councils appointed in 2006 by the government. In a note issued by the convener and co-convener of the JAC on Wednesday, all transport associations, vehicle owners and the people of the state have been requested by the JAC for their cooperation in the fight for the rights of teachers who have been working for the cause of education in the state.

Any person defying the bandh called by the JAC would be held solely responsible for any untoward eventualities, added the note.

Also, an indefinite economic blockade had been imposed along the National Highways 39 and 53 from the midnight of September 29 by the JAC for 2006 Autonomous District Council Teachers Appointed Parents & Guardians of Manipur against the state government’s directive for holding DPC for fresh recruitment of primary teachers for six hill districts without settling the cases of 835 primary teachers who were appointed in 2006 with proper DPC and who had been drawing regular salaries for 10/11 months since their induction.
