Imphal, Sept. 29: Manipur climbers displayed their prowess and clinched the champions’ title bagging 20 medals in the Ninth North East Zone Sports Climbing Competition held at Kangla Artificial Rock Wall at Hatta Minuthong.
The state climbers ensured a medal haul of 10 gold, seven silver and three bronze while Meghalaya were runners-up with two gold, one silver and six bronze.
Arunachal Pradesh fetched one gold, three silver and two bronze, while Nagaland took home one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. The climbers from Assam and Sikkim returned empty-handed.
Eighty nine climbers from six states took part in the competition organised by the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association which was held under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi and North East Zone Sports Climbing Committee.
The lone gold medal for Nagaland came in the sub- junior girls’ lead event. Sobha Kumari Lama fetched the top spot while Budhi Ampa of Arunachal Pradesh took the silver. Y. Khumjila of Nagaland won the bronze medal.
In the junior girls’ bouldering event, Enifer Rowena Nongkynrih of Meghalaya won the gold, while Sobha Kumari Lama of Nagaland claimed the silver. Y. Khumjila won the bronze.
N. Rishikesh Singh of Manipur won the gold in the sub-junior boys’ lead, while D.M. Robert of Manipur took home the silver and Tarak Lucky of Arunachal Pradesh collected the bronze.
