Meghalaya, MP, AP, Maharashtra to get Rs 39.65 cr from Centre

Shillong: The Union Rural Development Ministry has released Rs 39.65 crore as first installment for implementation of Centrally sponsored '''Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana'' (SGSY) in four states during this fiscal. An official statement today said the grant will be released to the 110 districts of Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra under the District Rural Development Agencies.

In Meghalaya, seven eligible districts were East Garo Hills (Williamnagar), East Khasi Hills (Shillong), Jaintia Hills (Jowai), Ri-Bhoi (Nongpoh), South Garo Hills (Baghmara), West Garo Hills (Tura) and West Khasi Hills (Nongstion) will receive a grant of Rs 18.71 lakh for SGSY implementation during the current financial year, the statement added.

The objective of the SGSY is to bring the poor families (Swarozgaries) above the poverty line by ensuring appreciable sustained level of income over a period of time. This objective would be achieved by organising the rural poor under Self Help Groups(SHGs) through the process of social mobilisation, training, capacity building and provision of income generating assets, the statement said.
