Meanwhile, Home Secretary G K Pillai headed for Manipur to review the security situation in the troubled state.
During his visit, Chidambaram will meet King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley, former king Jigme Singye Wangchuck, Minister for Home and Cultural Affairs Minjur Dorji and other leaders.
"The visit will enhance bilateral relations between India and Bhutan and cooperation in different common areas," a Home Ministry official said.
Chidambaram is expected to discuss issues related to security along border and activities of northeast militants besides others, sources said.
