Congress calls for six-hour Assam-Agartala Highway blockade

Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Tuesday called a six-hour Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-44) blockade on July 30 to protest the post-poll violence across the state.

This is the first phase of agitation to protest the state-sponsored post-poll violence in which two party leaders were killed and several others injured by CPI(M) cadres, Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath said here.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here, Nath admitted that the NH-44 blockade would cause inconvenience to the people but we are prompted by the situation created by CPI(M) to go for National Highway blockade.

Nath said that a TPCC delegation held a meeting with Governor D N Sahaya over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The Governor assured us of taking all possible steps to prevent such kind of incident, he said.

If the situation does not improve even after the road blockade movement, the party will start massive agitation to save the party leaders and workers, he said.
