Villages burn as ethnic clashes break out in Assam

NC Hills, Assam The state of Assam got over with it's polling after the second phase, and ethnic clashes broke out. The violence between the Dimasa and non-Dimasas has ended up in the burning up of entire villages.
A village caught in the vicious crossfire of demands for a separate homeland for Dimasas. All houses in Dimasa village, called Ya, were allegedly burnt down by an anti-Dimasa group. For these people, innocent of the demands the number of dead keeps going up .
The Black Widow Dimasa militants have unleashed a reign of terror in the North Cachar Hills district of Assam. Since April 10, all trains running through the area have been targeted and migrant construction workers and security personnel killed.
"Government should compensate and provide security in the surrounding villages," said President, Dimasa Apex Body, Dethang Naiding.
The Army, paramilitary and police in North Cachar are trying to contain a violence which is similar to that in Karbi Anglong; the other hill district. Karbi militants have been abducting and killing people at will till the date of elections
The Dayang river that separates the hill districts of Assm, Karbi Anglong and North Cachar, each an unfortunate reflection of the other and both trapped in underdevelopment and terror.
"There is no peace. Farmers and people who stay here cannot go to Karbi Anglong. They cannot come here. We don't get benefits of any schemes. We live in fear of dying," said a resident Raidendra Naidin.
And in this endless cycle, Friday saw another village being burnt in North Cachar in clashes between Dimasas and Non-Dimasas.
