Talking to The Assam Tribune over phone, Superintendent of Police (Chirang) Arnav Deka informed that the search operation has been intensified to locate the physician, though nothing specific has surfaced so far.
“We are not in a position to disclose anything at this moment,” said the SP.
“Dr Roy’s wife is not willing to accept it as a case of ‘abduction’. Rather, she is still insisting that her husband must have gone to attend some of his patients,” Deka informed.
The senior police official said that so far they have not come across any information about demand for ransom made by the outfit.
“We are progressing with the investigation keeping in view all possible angles, Deka stated.
Another police official, when contacted, divulged that a special team of police has been entrusted with the investigation and combing operation has been launched even in the forest areas of the district.
Meanwhile, several organizations have intensified their agitational programme across Chirang district in protest against the ‘abduction’. .
The alumni association of the 1977 batch of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, has appealed to the abductors of Dr Ratan Roy, who was taken away from his clinic at Bijni on May 5, to release him on humanitarian grounds.
