NPCC seeks Dixit's intervention in rape, murder of Naga girl

Kohima , Apr 24 : Nagaland Pradesh Congress has urged Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit to intervene and ensure speedy arrest of the persons accused of the alleged rape and murder of a minor Naga girl in New Delhi recently.

" There are growing incidents of atrocities against the people of North-East, particularly against girls and women, in the national capital," NPCC President K V Pusa said in a letter sent to Dixit yesterday.

He said,"The indifferent attitude of the authorities put the people of the region in a vulnerable position. It develops a sense of insecurity, isolation and alienation," NPCC chief said.

Six-year-old Gaipuilu Gangmei, was allegedly raped and murdered at Mahipalpur, New Delhi on April 17. She was cremated on Tuesday at her village Mhainamtsi in Nagaland&aposs Peren district, about 140 km from here, in the presence of thousands of mourners.

The incident evoked widespread protests from various Naga organisations who demanded justice. So far no arrest has been made by Delhi police in this connection, the victim&aposs community leaders said.
