Meinya calls for monitoring of dev funds for NE

 IMPHAL, Feb 23 – Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya, while participating in the discussion on the Interim Budget for 2009-2010 in the Parliament on Friday raised issues pertaining to Manipur.

He said that the Northeastern States did not have enough revenue resources. They actually lived on the grants given by the Central Government and whatever money was given by the Central Government was huge.

According to Manipur Information Centre, New Delhi, the MP emphasized the need of proper monitoring of the development money to ascertain whether it was utilized properly or not. The border States like Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh were special category States having many problems. Hence peace was required to develop these areas, he added.

He urged upon the Union Government, particularly, the Ministry of Home and the Ministry of Finance to be more liberal in dealing with these States in terms of financial help. He also proposed the Union Government to look into tackling the problems faced by these States in a holistic manner.
