HNLC woman cadre surrenders

Shillong, Feb 14 : A top woman militant of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today surrendered before Meghalaya police after she crossed over from her hideout in Bangladesh, police said.

Marbilas Syiemlieh alias Dari, decided to shun the path of violence following the ‘adamant’ attitude of the HNLC leaders in Bangladesh towards the low-ranking cadres, police said.

The ultra, however, did not deposit any arms or ammunition during her surrender.

Police said the Syiemlieh had undergone arms training at Chittagong Hills Tracts in Bangladesh in 2003.

Police said the reason behind Syiemlieh’s surrender was mainly due to shortage of financial resources by the outfit to sustain the cadres.

Police had started to glean information from the surrendered ultra.
