Curfew relaxed for eight hours in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 23 : Indefinite curfew, imposed on Thursday at the Manipur capital complex here after large scale violence following killings of a sub-divisional officer (SDO) and two staff members by Naga militants, was today relaxed for eight hours from nine a.M.

Official sources said curfew in Imphal and greater Imphal areas covering Imphal East and Imphal West districts was relaxed because of improvement in law and order situation.

Sources said government offices, banks, postal services and educational institutions which have been closed since Thursday, would function during the relaxation period.

They said curfew was imposed because of statewide agitation by several organisations in protest against killings of SDO of Kashom Khullen sub division in Ukhrul district The Kishan, his driver A Rajen and an official Y Token.

The three were kidnapped on February 13 from Ukhrul and their bludgeoned bodies found in Senapati district on February 17 last.
