BJP concerned over porous Myanmar border

NEW DELHI, Feb 25– Raising an alarm over rise in illegal cross-border movement along Indo-Myanmar border, the BJP today calling for Central intervention, demanded urgent measures to check such activities.

Making a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha this afternoon, Prakash Javedrekar alleged North-East insurgents have been taking shelter in the neighbouring country.

Myanmar, which has international border with four States of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, has seen free movement of militants and weapons.

Chinese weapons are being smuggled into Manipur via Myanmar, Militants after committing crimes flee to Myanmar, where training camps and shelter exist.

Fake Indian currencies are also smuggled across the border from Myanmar, which is also the route for narcotics smuggling, he alleged.

The MP called for tighter security vigil along the international border to curb the illegal activities.
