‘Rickshaw Run’ reaches Shillong on water mission

SHILLONG, Jan 14 – To raise funds for clean drinking water a group of ‘adventurers’ reached here today riding auto-rickshaws after covering 5,000 km from Pondicherry.

The ‘Rickshaw Run’ is being organized to raise fund for Mercy Corps and Frank Water. The organisations help in providing sustainable sources of clean drinking water to communities around the globe.

“This is the fifth edition of the ‘Rickshaw Run’ and the Meghalaya Tourism department has been of great help to us,” team leader Tom Morgan said here.

He remarked that it was an ‘extraordinary journey’ covering 5,000 km and the purpose of the journey had given more meaning to it.

Each member of the group has been asked to raise at least 1,000 pounds for the charity work of Mercy Corps and Frank Water, Morgan said.

“In that way all of us jointly would be able to contribute a substantial amount to help in providing safe drinking water to all communities around the world,” he added.

Meanwhile, the auto-rickshaw team will play a friendly cricket match with the Shillong Cricket Club before the closing ceremony of the ‘Run’ to be held on January 15 at Polo Ground here.
