Meghalaya minister wants free border trade

Shillong, Jan 20 : Meghalaya Border Trade Minister Donkupar Massar wants to revive the traditional border markets in certain areas along the Indo-Bangladesh border and wants the Chief Minister Donkupar Roy to approach the Bangladeshi government.

“We need to boost trade relations with Bangladesh and for that to happen the State Government should have a better understanding of the new Bangladeshi Government,” Massar said.

He pointed out that in the past border haats had seen good business and people residing in border areas were benefited from them.

Union Minister for DoNER Mani Shankar Aiyar has on several occasions also called for better trade ties between India and Bangladesh.

He had recently said he would urge the Centre to send a delegation of Chief Ministers from the North East to Bangladesh to discuss steps to have better bilateral business relations.
