Saroj Chaturvedi of Naharkatia scores a futile 52
Dibrugarh, 9: Vir Lachit Barphukon College, Sivasagar thrashed Naharkatia College by a margin of 77 runs to clinch the title in the Dibrugarh University inter-college cricket tournament — the final of which was played at the university playground yesterday.
Naharkatia College won the toss and asked their opponents to bat. Vir Lachit scored 168 in 34.2 overs losing all their wickets. Wicketkeeper-batsman Wasiqur Rahman scored 45 in 32 balls with seven hits to the fence and one over the rope. Rahman was later adjudged Man of the Match. Rajendra Lal contributed 19.
For Naharkatia College, Lakhinath Deka picked up three wickets for 23 runs, while Chandan Pandey took two for 22.
In reply, Naharkatia could manage only 91 in 15.5 overs losing all their wickets. Saroj Chaturvedi scored 52 off 41 balls with 10 boundaries and Jagadananda Dhekial contributed 10.
For the Sivasagar side, Biswajeet Mazinder Baruah came up with a devastating spell, picking up six wickets for just 12 runs in his seven overs. Pankaj Chetia provided good assistance, claiming two wickets for 19 runs.
Biswajeet was later adjudged the Best Bowler of the Tournament.
Vice-chancellor K.K. Deka and deputy registrar (academic) Rajib Hondique gave away the prizes.
