Three new NITs in north east India. Meghalaya, Mizoran and Nagaland

HRD Ministry has sanctioned three new National institute of technologies for North-East India. Union human resource development minister, Kapil Sibal, laid foundation stones of permanent campuses of three National Institute of Technology (NIT) campuses in North East, one each in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram.

The permanent campus of NIT in Meghalaya will come in Sohra (also known as Cherrapunjee), in Nagaland it will be situated near Dimapur and in Mizoram the NIT campus will come up at Lengpui. Though these NITs were sanctioned couple of years back, they were lacking permanent campuses and were sharing infrastructures of other educational institutes.
