Spotlight on northeast fashion at WIFW

Spotlight on northeast fashion at WIFW In an attempt to promote fashion from the northeast, the Textiles Ministry and Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) have joined hands to organise a show dedicated to designs from the region on the first day of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week spring-summer 2013.

"We are grateful to Kiran Dhingra, secretary textiles, for her patronage to northeast projects. This is a good example where the ministry of textiles and FDCI have teamed up to promote textiles from a particular region," Sunil Sethi, president of FDCI, in a statement.

Atsu Sekhose, a designer from northeast and one of the known names in the Indian fashion world, will showcase a contemporary collection that captures the flavour of the region, its textiles and intricate designs.

Sekhose has recently been bestowed with the Governor's Award by the Nagaland Government for his contribution to the world of fashion.

Besides the show, there will also be stalls showcasing crafts from various designers from the North-East including, Manipur, Shillong, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at the five-day extravaganza starting Saturday at Pragati Maidan.
