Appeal for peace in Dima Hasao dist

HAFLONG, July 17 - The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Dima Hasao District Committee has condemned the killing of Swapan Dhar Choudhury, who was one of the oldest traders of Haflong town, by some miscreants on the night of July 10 and also condemned the incident of firing by some miscreants with a view to extorting money from the public on July 12 at Maibang.

In view of the prevailing situation which is an undercurrent of the tense situation such as the case of serving ‘extortion notice’ by the miscreants/militants to the people in the border areas and urban areas of Dima Hasao Autonomous district, the ASDC Dima Hasao District Committee has urged the district administration of this autonomous district to take measures in a more effective way, so that there are no security lapses in the district for the sake of business community, the rural people of the border areas and the common people alike.

The party also asked the militants to shun violence and not to take the law in their own hands so that peace, brotherhood and harmony can be restored in the autonomous district, stated a press release issued by ASDC president, Rathindra Thaosen.
