Agartala marathon for unity

Around 1,500 athletes and sports lovers, some of them from other parts of the country, Sunday participated in the 6th ONGC Agartala Marathon aimed at propagating unity in the society.

Indian women athletes Mandeep Kaur and Jauna Murmur, who won gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, also took part in the 21.5 km event that was organised by the Tripura Players Welfare Association (TPWA) along with the Agartala Marathon Trust with the motto: Run for State, Run for Unity.

"To unite and create brotherly feeling among the people, this race would play a catalytic role. It would also boost sportsmanship," Tripura Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sahid Chowdhury said after flagging off the marathon.

Besides sportspersons, eminent people from different walks of life also participated in the three-hour event.
