Three minors among 4 rescued by cops, NGO

NEW DELHI: Along with an NGO, Shakti Vahini, the police have rescued four girls - three of them minors - while they were being sold at the redlight area in central Delhi. The girls were lured by traffickers with false promises and forced into prostitution or bonded labour. A placement agency, illegally operating in Govindpuri, was raided.

The police had earlier received a tip-off that a girl had been trafficked from West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district and the she was being held captive at the placement agency. After the raid, owners of the firm told the police that the girl had been kept in Jaipur. Later, a 16-year-old from Nagaon district of Assam was rescued by the Kamla Market Police from the G B Road redlight area. The girls were produced at the Child Welfare Committee, Lajpat Nagar on Monday.
