GREF officials looted in Dibang Valley

ITANAGAR: Armed unidentified men looted Rs 35 lakh from General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) personnel in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district on Tuesday. A delayed official report reaching here said the GREF officials were going to Hunli with salaries for the personnel when the attack took place. When officials reached the area with the cash, they found the road blocked by boulders. As the driver got off the vehicle and started clearing the boulders, about 15 men, armed with AK-47 rifles, attacked the driver and the officials. The robbers tied them up and made away in the GREF vehicle with a mobile phone, two rifles, wallets, a laptop and the cash. Two guards were injuries in the attack and were taken to a district hospital. However, they were released after first aid. A massive combing operation has been launched to nab the culprits. The stolen vehicle was found by police from the remote Rukmo village along the Assam-Arunachal boundary. Police suspect involvement of militant outfit in the robbery.
