Sales tax on petroleum products reduced in Mizoram

Mizoram government has reduced the rates of local sales tax on petroleum products and lubricants, which were recently raised, bringing down the prices of petroleum products in the state, an official statement said here today.

The state government raised the local sales tax on petrol from 18% to 25% on May 20, but brought it down from June 1 midnight to 20% which also decreased the price of petrol from Rs 64.70 to Rs 61.17 per litre.

The costs of other items like diesel, LPG and lubricants were also reduced after the local sales tax on these items were reduced by the state taxation department.

Opposition parties had earlier strongly protested the hike in petroleum products and threatened to launch aggressive agitation if the state government refuses to roll back the prices.
