ONGC caps leaking gas well

AGARTALA, June 21 – Ending days of suspense, leakage of gas from a well of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Konaban in West Tripura district was today capped by the company’s Crisis Management Team (CMT), official sources said.

“A 14-member CMT led by it’s chief, Ved Prakash Madwar on Monday sealed the leakage of gas by setting up a ‘Blow out preventus (BOP)’ on the leaking well and then by throwing chemical muds”, said an official of ONGC’s corporate communication.

He said the well has been sealed and there is no leakage of gas from the gas well. “The situation is now normal”, he said. Experts from an US firm – Boots & Coots that extinguished fire from a large number of oil wells of Kuwait after the Gulf War II, were also flown here to cap the gas well, but the CMT could finish the work just before their arrival on the site, sources claimed.
