Almost all participating chief ministers and governors of eight North Eastern states unanimously agreed on the urgent need for connectivity through both land and air.
They gave their approval for new rail, road and air projects and discussed the status of ongoing projects.
Other issues like the need for improvement of telecom services, education reforms and potential for hydel power generation were discussed.
Representatives of nine different ministries, including railways, waters, home affairs and telecom were also present at the meet that was presided over by the Minister for North East Development, B.K Handique.
"We decided that immediately we strengthen the two airports near the Assam-Arunachal border. These are Lilabari and Tezpur Airport. We have increased the number of flights and provided additional aircrafts," said Handique
The meeting gave an opportunity both for the states and the NEC to discuss the problems faced at the ground level and find solutions for them.
On the sidelines of the meeting, 13 Northeast athletes, including 10 from Manipur and one each from Assam, Sikkim and Tripura who won accolades at Asian Games and Commonwealth Games were also felicitated.
" This initiative of felicitating the national and international level performers is very encouraging. This will boost the morale of other players also," Monica Devi, Bronze medallist at CWG 2010.
"This award will be good for the sportspersons and is very encouraging," Mary Kom, Boxing Champion.
North East Council in the past one year has completed 22 projects in the region. And, it now aims to promote northeast as a large trading hub in Southeast Asia.
