Gang duping Arunachalees off crores busted

Itanagar, June 09 : A gang that duped several innocent local Arunachalees off crores of rupees was busted and all its members arrested, including the mastermind Prakhanjit Gogoi, from various parts of Assam by the Itanagar police. Itanagar SP Chukhu Apa informed on Thursday that with the arrest of Gogoi recently from a
remote village in Namrup of Assam's Dibrugarh district, all the six accused and members of the fake company G10 Infratech are in police custody.

The other accused namely Jyoti Bora, Mridul Sharma, Bitu Choudhury, Prasana Sonowal and Krishna Kanta Das were earlier arrested from different parts of Assam.

According to the SP, the modus operandi of the gang was simple. They had opened a well-furnished and impressive office in Kahilipara area of Guwahati under the name of G-10 Infratech.

They had in possession several fake DPRs for laying of OPC lines from Itanagar to Doimukh and Ziro besides a fake work order purported to be granted by telecom giants like Reliance, Aircel, Airtel, etc running into crores of rupees.

They expressed their desire to sub-let the work to locals of the area for execution to which many fell prey.

The fake work orders with the DPR were awarded to the intending contractors and in return collected huge money under the pretext of commissions and for payment to the company.

The gullible people paid huge money towards commission to them without verifying authenticity of the work.

After collecting approximately Rs 1.28 crore, the gang closed the office and disappeared.

Reportedly, Gogoi invested the money in other contract works.

Records say Gogoi has studied only up to class XII and his father is an employee of OIL India, Duliajan.
