Tripura teachers plead for dress code

Agartala, May 29 : The teachers of Tripura have decided to go for a dress code for them due to the growing trend of engaging teachers in political rallies and other non-academic activities in the state.

Talking in a seminar on professional ethics for school teachers here today, organised by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), All Tripura Teachers Association (ATTA) had proposed to introduce dress code for the school teachers to avoid non-academic hazards.

''Since teachers wear normal dresses, the political parties easily bring them to their rallies as supporters. Teachers are made to skip classes to attend rallies,'' said ATTA General Secretary Shyamal Saha.

''We have already conveyed our demand to the state government but yet to receive any response ,'' Mr Saha said.

Reacting to the demand, School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said he had received no such proposals and the issue would be taken up at appropriate level for final decision.

He said the idea of dress code for the teachers was good.
