Spring fest from March 16

Kohima, Mar 12 : The North East Zone Cultural Centre will organise the international North East Spring Festival capturing the mood and brilliance of spring on its grounds in Dimapur from March 16 to 20.

With more than 500 artistes participating, the festival will showcase the biggest ensemble of folk dances, folk music, puppeteers, craftsmen, poets, choral singers, theatre groups, chefs and others, director of the cultural centre, Som Kamei, said.

He said the festival would also have choral and fusion music concerts, including performances by Lou Majaw. A major highlight would be the performance of cultural troupes from Myanmar, sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations under the ministry of external affairs.

“The international dance troupes will also perform in Mokokchung as part of the centre’s outreach programme and cultural troupes from other zonal cultural centres of the country will perform in Medziphema of Nagaland.”

The festival will have a book fair, which will be organised by the centre in association with the National Book Trust from March 14 to 20. The director said the major features of the festival would be folk dance on March 16 and 17, ethnic costume show on March 18, theatre performance by Stage Fusion and puppet show from Rajasthan on March 19.

crafts bazaar and traditional ethnic food court from March 16 to 20 and Northeast poetry meet from March 17 to 19.

Choral singing and fusion music from Mizoram, Nagaland and performances by Lou Majaw and international folk dancers from Myanmar will be held on March 16.
