APCC decries blast at Rajiv Bhawan

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the IED blast in the premises of the Rajiv Bhawan, which is the headquarters of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee in Guwahati.

Four party workers were injured in the blast triggered by the anti-talks faction of the proscribed ULFA. Terming the act of terror as anti-democratic, an APCC member said the attackers were trying to damage the secular fabric in the state and destroy peaceful co-existence of people. Moreover, they also want to spread terror and chaos among Congress workers and people of Assam ahead of the assembly polls, added the member.

"The intimidating tactics of insurgent groups to create law and order problems also indicate involvement of a few politically motivated people behind it who want to secure power and position for themselves", the party said in a communique on Wednesday.

Stating that the Congress always works in the greater interest of the common people, the APCC appealed to the people of Assam not to bow down to terror, maintain peace and stand united against anti-social elements and bring back the Congress to power. It also urged the Election Commission to deploy adequate para-military forces in Assam in the run up to the polls.
