Lumbding-Agartala to be broad-gauge by 2014

Agartala, Dec 6 : The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has reiterated that gauge conversion work between Lumbding and Agartala via Badarpur would be completed by 2013 and railway movement up to Sabroom, southern most destination of Tripura, by 2014.

NFR General Manager Keshab Chandra told the media here yesterday that Railway Ministry had been paying additional attention for on time installation of broad-gauge tracks in Agartala-Lumbding section, besides track laying work between Agartala and Akhaura, Tripura-Bangladesh border.

Mr Chandra, accompanied by a group of senior officials of NFR, inspected the ongoing works in Tripura and reviewed railway development activities.

He said Udaipur in south Tripura would be connected in railway network by 2012.

There were about 20 tunnels and several complicated bridges that needed to be upgraded, he added.
