Sikkim Govt lambasted over residential certificate

GANGTOK, Nov 30 – Nar Bahadur Bhandari, former Chief Minister and President of the Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee(SPCC), has lambasted the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front government on the issue of issuance of residential certificates.

Speaking to this correspondent, Bhandari said that the government has not passed the two notifications pertaining to the residential certificate issue in the Assembly, nor have they taken the Governor’s assent to make it an Act.

Terming the notifications as illegal, Bhandari announced the SPCC plan of creating mass public awareness against the nefarious plans of the Pawan Chamling Government of issuing residential certificates at random, to benefit outsiders and support Chamling’s vote bank.

He said that the SPCC will undertake public meetings on the issue from December 1 at Pakyong in East District and follow it up with Namthang and other places and conclude at Gangtok. Reiterating the stance of the SPCC on the issue of issuing certificates to old settlers who have been left out, Bhandari said that he is not opposed to benefits being given to them.
