Kidnapped mineral development corporation official untraced

Itanagar, Nov 29 (PTI) Security forces remained clueless about the whereabouts of the kidnapped official of Arunachal Pradesh Mineral Development and Trading Corporation Limited (APMDTCL), four days after he was abducted from Kharsang in Changlang district by armed men.

Despite the joint teams of district police, army, CRPF, Assam Rifles and India Reserve Battalion carrying out massive search operations in all the possible locations, Sanjay Kumar, the ''supervisor'' at APMDTCL-run coal mine at Kharsang, remained untraced, a top police officer said.

The Assam police in neighbouring Tinsukia district also joined in the search operation, he added.

The official said that the incident was reported to the police a good 15 hours later and this might have provided the chance to Kumar''s abductors to escape through the dense forests in the direction of Namchik, about 15-16 kms off the coal field, in the company''s vehicle.

"We are not taking any chance at haste, bearing in mind the first objective of getting safe release of Sanjay Kumar from the clutches of his abductors," the official said.

On being asked whether there was any demand for ransom by the abductors or any ultra hand behind the kidnap, the official said, "We are investigating the case from all angles.
Nothing can be said at this moment until and unless our investigation is over."
"We are making all out effort to get safe release of the official and net his abductors. An early comment beyond this is not feasible for the sake of our investigation," he said.

The Arunachal Indigenous People's Union (AIPU) condemned the incident and urged the government to deploy more forces to rescue the official.
