Tripura presents zero tax deficit budget

AGARTALA, June 12 – Tripura Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury today placed a zero tax deficit budget for 2010-11 financial year in the State Assembly.

The total size of the budget is Rs 6,693.26 crore, which is higher than the last year by Rs 138.26 crore, thus giving a 2.11 per cent upward thrust, Chowdhury said in his budget speech.

The budget has, however, left a deficit of Rs 186.03 crore which is expected to be covered by availing benefits of debt consolidation and relief facility under the 13th Finance Commission Award and thorough improvement of financial management and enforcing austerity drive in administration.

The expenditure has been outlayed to be divided in salary, interest payment, pension, repayment of loans and other miscellaneous expenditure avenues, Chowdhury said.

Rs 2306.17 crore will be spent in salaries, Rs 511.82 crore on interest payment, Rs 600 crore on pensions, Rs 192 crore on repayment of loans and Rs 3,083.27 crore will be spent in other avenues.

Chowdhury said that in the Education sector Rs 1,337.25 crore would be spent which constitute 19.98 per cent of the budget and in Public Works Department the expenditure would be Rs 954.54 crore constituting 14.26 per cent of the budget.

While in Home department the expenditure would be Rs 615.39 crore constituting 9.19 per cent of the budget the expenditure would be Rs 581.27 crore in Agriculture constituting 8.68 per cent.
