HWS secretary SK Khobung said Dr Zawithanglien Changsan, a scientist of the Central Pollution Control Board of Northeastern region, Shillong, will speak on the theme “peace on earth” during the celebration. A prayer service will also be conducted by the secretary himself and the service programme to be followed on Sunday will be presided over by Dr Jacob L Pulamte while the next day’s programme will be chaired by Vanlallien Pulamte.
According to reports, around 600 Hmar students are pursuing their studies in different colleges in the fields of technology, polytechnic, medicine as well as in schools and nearly 90 per cent of the tribe are employed in various government offices. Hmar Students’ Association (HSA), Hmar Welfare Society ( HWS) and Hmar Worship Service (HWS), the three artery organizations are engaged in extending selfless services to the people irrespective of caste and creed in times of their need.
