Christmas celebrations echo love, peace & harmony

Guwahati, Dec 25 : Messages of love, peace and communal harmony echoed as people celebrated Christmas today with prayers and merriment in Assam.

Midnight meetings were organised in various churches where mass prayers were offered seeking Jesus Christ's blessings to spread his preachings of love, compassion and humanity, a church leader here said.

With churches decorated colourfully with bright lights and scenes of nativity, the festival spirit gripped the state with parties and celebrations.

In their X-mas greetings, Governor J B Patnaik and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called upon the people to "follow the path of truth, universal brotherhood and eternal peace to create an environment of harmony."

North East is home to a large number of Christians with Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram being Christian majority states. Assam, too, has a sizeable Christian population.
