Manipur Government fails to reopen schools

IMPHAL, Nov 9: Inspite of the efforts of the Manipur Government most of the educational institutes in the State still remained closed. A meeting of the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) legislature parties held on November 7 decided to open educational institutes today.

Even though the teachers came at the institutes the students did not turn up. The students depended on local taxi service which exclusively run for the educational institutes were plagued by the fact that the service remained unfunctional.

One of the taxi services operator said they will operate only when all the problems were resolved. All educational institutes had been closed down since September 9 as a part of the stir against fake encounter killings. Police personnel also roamed around the educational institutes to ensure that no untoward incidents took place.

The student bodies of the State, All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) have stated that right to life is more important than right to education and the stir would continue.

All Manipur Students’ Guardians Organization (AMSGO), Senior Citizens, Manipur, All Tribal Students’ Union (ATSUM), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) have appealed to all to bring an amicable solution to the matter as the academic life was seriously affected.
