ZRF on Zeliangrong convention

Imphal, October 26 : Zeliangrong Research Forum (ZRF) has welcomed and appreciated the initiatives of the Zeliangrong leaders in convening the Zeliangrong General Public Convention and who are working hard to host the same from October 29 to 30 at Indoor Stadium, Tamenglong district headquarters.

Dominic Gonmei, president of ZRF in a statement observed that unity of the Zeliangrong people has suffered a setback over the past few years due to various factors.

He believes that the proposed convention is a clarion call that the time for Zeliangrong unity has come and no one can stop an idea whose time has come.

In connection with the proposed convention, the ZRF suggested that the convention should be inclusive of all the Zeliangrong people living in Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

It urged the Zeliangrong leaders to have vision and patience to resolve any differences amongst the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland in order to achieve the unity of the people.

The statement also suggested that the proposed convention may be deferred in order to facilitate the participation of Zeliangrong people of Nagaland - who stated earlier that they would not participate in the convention as the dates collide with an important festival 'Chaga.' "Taking into account such factor, it would be more pragmatic to fix another date for the General Public Convention so that the Zeliangrong people of Nagaland can participate actively," the statement conveyed.

It also appealed the organisers of the convention to follow a proper conventional procedure of election in order to avoid unnecessary allegation and counter allegations.

It urged that the issue of unity and nomenclature - 'Baudi' or 'Union' - should be resolved and given prior importance at the convention.
