Vice president in Sikkim to lay foundation for rail link

Gangtok, Oct 28 - Vice President Hamid Ansari arrived here Wednesday on a hectic three-day visit to Sikkim during which he will lay the foundation stone of a rail link between Rangpo in the Himalayan state and Sevoke in West Bengal.

Ansari was received at the Libing Army Helipad by Governor B. P. Singh and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.

The vice president is also scheduled to be the chief guest for the centenary celebrations of the Sikkim High Court and address a seminar on 'Right to Education with Special Reference to Sikkim and its Impact on Legal Awareness Campaign', which is scheduled to be held Thursday.

Ansari is to visit the renowned Lingdum Monastery in Ranka, about 15 km from here, besides the Cultural Village and the state of the art Banjhakri Falls Park later Wednesday where he shall inspect the renewable energy sources that have been used to run the park.

On Friday, Ansari will lay the foundation stone for the rail link between Rangpo and Sevoke. Railway Minister Mamata Banarjee will also be present at the function at Rangpo in East Sikkim district.

The vice president will return to New Delhi Friday.
