'No increase in insurgent movement in Indo-Bangla border'

Shillong: There has been no increase in the movement of insurgents along Indo-Bangla border, a top BSF officer said on Monday.

"We do not see increase in the movement of militants along the borders. There is nothing particularly serious as of now in the eastern sector," BSF Special DG (East) R K Medheker told reporters here.

Speaking on the sidelines of the first BSF inter-frontier badminton championship here, he said, "The border is being managed well. It is going on quite well by checking illegal migration, smuggling and movement of militants."

"BSF has been carrying out joint patrolling with BDR in some places. We hold regular flag meetings at various levels," the Special DG said.

BSF has been maintaining strict vigil to check incursion. "The border is vast, porous and the terrain is difficult. This poses some constraints," he said when asked about the repeated incursions along Meghalaya border from across the border.

BSF would recruit 29 new battalions in five years to increase vigil along the borders. "This will help guard the borders better," Medheker said, adding new weapons and gadgets were also being inducted into the forces.
