Imphal, Aug. 19 : Manipur strength-lifters won 14 medals, including five gold, in the 16th sub-junior boys’ and girls’ Strength-Lifting Championship in Patna earlier this month.
The women lifters grabbed the overall team champions’ title and the Manipur lifters also created four new national records in the championship.
In the women’s 100kg event, Ksh. Robina Devi lifted a total of 765kg for the gold. She also set a new national record in the incline bench press by lifting 117.5kg.
T. Joychandra Singh created a new national record in the 90kg category of the incline bench press with a lift of 110kg, while Y. Roshini Devi in the 66kg took the gold with a national record in the incline bench press lifting 52.50kg. She also set another record in the hand curling event, lifting 35kg and snatching the junior women’s title.
Other gold medallists in the women’s category include N. Sushila Devi who lifted 262.5kg in the 60kg category, L. Pusparani Devi in the 72kg category (350kg) and O. Babyrani Devi (80kg). She fetched another gold with a total lift of 287.5kg.
In the junior boys’ 90kg category, Ph Gautam took the silver lifting 580kg, while Ak Suchitra Devi in the 45kg category won the silver lifting 175kg. N. Sweety Devi also fetched a silver in the 50kg event with a lift of 175kg and Th. Nongthanglembi in the 60kg event came up with another silver managing to lift 175kg.
M. Bandana Devi in the 66kg event and H. Tomthinnganbi Devi in the 72kg category collected a silver each, lifting 220kg and 262.50kg respectively.
S. Bronson collected the bronze in the 55kg event, while Ph Naocha Devi, in the 55k category, lifted 275kg for another bronze medal.
