Lup appeals to people not to back out

Imphal, August 18 : Although Central leaders have been claiming that India is the largest democracy, in Manipur and other a small states, inhabited by people ethnically different from the rest of the country, military rule has been the pretext of democracy said the Apunba Lup in a statement released today.

It said the picture of military rule in Manipur has been made clear by the July 23 incident at Khwairamband the Lup claimed.

It said Central leaders remain silent spectators of the carnage of the “killer” chief minister of Manipur still has not removed from his post.

No appropriate action has been so far initiated against guilty commando personnel and other responsible top brass of the police for the July 23 crime they committed, it said.

It said the failure of Central leaders to initiate action in the incident of fake encounter, misleading statement of CM on the floor of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has raised doubt in the minds of the people whether the Government of India has given approval to the unrestrained killing unleashed by the Manipur government.

It said the underlying meaning of the statement of chief minister Ibobi “there was no alternative but to kill” was that he would continue to kill innocent men and women and the statement was an insult to the people.

The statement further claimed that if the Central leaders believe and work in the true spirit of democracy and rule of law, and also consider the people of Manipur as the citizen of India wholeheartedly, they should prevent the policy of fake encounters by “killer” Ibobi by removing him from his chief minister post.

The statement asserted that it was the high time that the people to prepared for a mass protest against MLAs and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee who were supporting the chief minister.

It also strongly condemned the police action against protestors and detaining their representatives who have been agitating democratically under NSA.

The Lup appealed all the section of the society to fully support the 36-hour general strike, which would commence from 5 am tomorrow till 5 pm August 19, by burning effigies the chief minister, his criminal commandos and top police brass, and warned that any untoward incident to anyone who defy the strike would be there own responsibility.
